What students valued most about their host families:
“ I really enjoyed the moments when my host mother and/or sister and I talked about our day or general comments. I think lunch time was the most valuable time we had because it was when we all sat down together to share.”
“My host mother was very accommodating to making food that I enjoyed eating, such as, more vegetables. She was very loving and tried to be important in my life but was not overbearing. The most father was quiet, kept to himself but still was very funny and nice to me. The family did a great job at making me feel at home and enjoying my time abroad.”
“The hospitality and the location of the home. (They) are very kind and loving people who have a very nice and open house. They are patient and only want the best for those living with them.”
“(They) were caring and trustworthy and I felt very safe and taken care of with them. They were very lax about my schedule and let me do what I wanted and I never felt restricted by them! It was a very good experience being able to live in a Spanish household and seeing culture from that point of view and having to adjust to the differences. I am so glad that I lived in a homestay and was able to build a relationship with them and get to know someone who I can go back and visit in Spain!”
“I loved having privacy, stability in scheduling with meals, and cleanliness.”
“I valued that my host mother gave me my space but I also felt like I had a wonderful relationship with her, I always felt happy to be coming back to Oviedo when I sent travelling.”
“My host mom is great! I love the immersion into the culture and how willing and helpful my family has been in every aspect. The location is also really awesome.”
“Having dinner everynight with my host family I thought was really important. I also liked how if I ever needed anything I could ask my host family and they were more than willing to help me.”
“How nice my host parents (were).
“I LOVED my family!!! My house was in the perfect location, seven minutes from campus, and three minutes from the store fronts. My host mom is the sweetest lady who truly cares so much for her students. I really felt like of her kids, and meeting her other (real) kids was so neat and fun. The whole family is so welcoming and so sweet.
“My living situation was the highlight of my trip. I am hoping to go back and see them. I made lifetime long relationships with these people, they really took me in, made me feel welcomed and helped me whenever I needed anything for the slightest bit of help or major help.”
“My host mom was all I could have hoped for and gave me everything I ever needed. I always bragged to the other stuents that she was the best cookand she made the best stuff and that I had the best bed. She game me my privacy and we also watched TV and did other stuff. Her husband was great and I played soccer with the son and his friends. It was a jolly time.”
“My host mom is really sweet, she’s super accommodating to my vegetarian diet and her apartment is really close to campus.”
