MAYMESTER INTENSIVE FIVE-WEEK SPANISH COURSE
Dates: 2019: May 24 to June 28, 2020: May 23 to June 27
Academics:
The Intensive Spanish Language consists of 100 contact hours of instruction and is offered at the Intermediate and Advanced Spanish levels. It may be possible also to accommodate Elementary level students, depending on the total enrolment during the session. Classes run from May 22 to June 23 in 2017 and from May 28 to June 29 in 2018.
Students focus primarily on the Spanish language which is broken up into 75 contact hours of Spanish grammar and composition) and 25 contact hours of Spanish Culture and Civilization exploring such topics as:
- Conversation on Spanish Society and Culture (12.5 or 25 contact hours)
- Spanish Literature (12.5 or 25 contact hours)
These topics are taught during the last hour of class and last for two weeks (12.5 contact hours) each. Students can concentrate on just one of these topics during the entire month (i.e. Conversation or chose two Conversation and Spanish Literature.
Course location and times: Classes are held at La Casa de las Lenguas at the University of Oviedo’s Humanities Campus. Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Afternoons and weekends are free.
Accommodations: Homestays with Spanish families throughout Oviedo (includes 3 meals and light laundry) All homes have Internet access.
Extracurricular Activities included in the program:
- three local visits in Oviedo and Gijón.
- two Saturday field trips to locations in Asturias and/or neighboring regions.
- Welcome Espicha (traditional Asturian cider tasking party) and Farewell Reception.
Other opportunities: Language partners and community service placements.
GEO Support Services: Same as those offered during other terms, intercultural, medical, personal and academic. Two full time, bilingual staff members.
